What is CBGA?

November 15, 2018

This week, we’re talking about the most pivotal chemical compound found in weed. Cannabigerolic acid, also known as CBGA, is the cannabinoid that makes cannabis sativa unique from other plants. All plants undergo different chemical processes to break down and create different chemical compounds in the natural course of their life. This process is called biosynthesis. For example, photosynthesis is the process in which green plants and other organisms transform water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and other energy rich chemical compounds with the use of sunlight. Similarly, olivetolic acid and geranyl pyrophosphate, two naturally occurring compounds found in cannabis, are biosynthesized to create CBGA.
